Our Dogs

Our dogs are the heart of our kennel. Each one has a special personality and talent that makes them an important part of the team. Visit each one below for an in-depth look at who they are.

Agate
Agate
My first sled dog, so of course we have a special connection. Agate ran the Serum Run (750 miles) in 2002 with me. She led almost  all the way as a yearling  and I had the great opportunity to purchase her in 2004. She is the mother to my 'salmon' litter. Great dog, great attitude but doesn’t like to leave her house. But as soon as we are around the first curve she puts the hammer down and makes everybody else work hard.
Chinook
She’s got the same looks as her mom, Agate. Her body is rock solid hard, has always a great appetite and is happy all the time. She likes a lot of attention, loves when something is going on and is an awesome performer when put in harness.

Chum
Chum
Big white dog. He seems to always feel good. Smiling, barking and howling he’s very expressive and energetic. As a puppy he was the first who found the way out the doghouse and went for exploring trips. Great happy dog with floppy ears, just like his dad, Reb.
Red
Big 60 Pound male with great character and great smile. Great eater. He will eat your finger if you don't watch out :-).  He is going to be a wonderful dog with lots of power to pull me up the big mountains. Ran as a puppy a few times in lead. He is still figuring out his position in the team. Doesn’t like free running very much but loves when I come around the corner with a harness.

Red

Humpy
Humpy
50 pound brown/white male who I know is going to be a star one day. Muscular body with a sharp mind and a very powerful and strong performance every time he is in harness. He’s got his mom’s qualities and can be very proud of that. He likes to jump on his house then jump on my shoulders with his front feet and lick the hell out my face.
Sockeye
Miss crazy. This cute 45 pound female is always moving and showed me last winter that she knows how to pull a sled. Eats fast, runs fast, drinks fast does everything fast and is expected to big a strong link at Willow Creek Kennel for the upcoming winter season. Dog with great leader qualities.

Sockeye

Coho
Coho
Our small female out of the salmon litter. 35 pound dog with a big tough heart . Very loving dog who loves attention. She barks loud at me every time I pass her house and reminds me to pet her. She is very driven to become a super sled dog and I’ll lead her way. A crazy little female just like her sister Sockeye.
Koochee
9 year old female who ran a few stage stop races in the lower 48. She’s a great puppy leader who’s very patient but at the the same time very bossy. I sometimes let her think that she is running the show in the dog lot and then she gets really proud. Kochee is also every visitors sweetheart.

Freedom
Freedom
She is our shy girl. She ran part of the Iditarod last year with Martin Buser but broke her right front leg in a freak accident just outside a checkpoint. She’s got great breeding potential and is expected to have a litter the beginning of October. She is a 3 year old with lots of time to get used to us.
Cedar
A very playful dog, has still a lot of puppy in him but has plenty of time to mature since he’s only 1 ½ years old. He is one of the four tree litter brothers and the son of the famous Jenna who won a couple of Iditarod championships with Jeff King. He can proof it to me this winter. It’s time to shine.

Cedar
Aspen
The future super dog. On her first run she came back in lead and ever since barks and howls whenever not in lead. Super smooth runner with incredible potential. Nothing scares this dog, never looks tired, always happy and easy going. She’ll be the one to watch together with her brother, Spruce.

Aspen

Willow
Willow
The quiet girl. 40 pound female who’s got a great run and together with her sisters chases the boys around the lot. The Serum Run this winter will show if she’s got what it takes to be a solid Iditarod racer.
Maple
The Beauty King. Gets all the attention from female visitors because of his good looks. Really long legs with hard body.  He came back home trotting after his third run in harness. Real smooth gait. You could have a glass of water on his back and he wouldn’t spill a drop.

Maple

Spruce
Spruce
The Machine. This dog runs and runs and runs and makes everything look so easy. Ran a lot in lead in his first year and cannot wait to go out and show me how it’s done again. We teach each other a lot out there. When we take off Spruce puts his head down and focuses till I tell him to stop. That’s pretty amazing for a dog who is not even 2 year old.
Ash
Our cheerleader. Always happy, smiling, she’s got a cute face and so much character she can almost talk. She is pretty small which doesn’t mean she can’t pull. She likes to play tag on the free runs and takes advantage of her ability to move very quickly and fast around corners and trees. The Serum Run will tell if she’s got it in her.

Ash

Colt
Colt
Very energetic young dog. He doesn't really know yet if he likes to pull or not. Since he's a male and still very young he's got still plenty of time to mature. Winter 08 will put him to the test.
